Finally, My Movie Review

Believe it or not I almost decided not to write a review of the movie. I had so many mixed feelings about the whole thing. So, I waited until I saw it a second time before I told anyone what I thought.

The first time I saw it I had so many emotions running through me. I was excited, anxious, gitty as a school girl, and most of all nervous. I was nervous to see if they would mutilate the characters and story I had grown to love. When the movie started I actually got a tear in my eye. Not a tear of a crazed fan, but a tear of joy for Stephenie Meyer. I felt like a proud Momma watching her baby succeed. Through the whole movie I was so stressed I couldn't relax and enjoy the movie. So-No, I did not like the movie. I so wanted to like it! I came out of the theater in a state of shock. On our way to Forks, Miles and I picked it apart. We thought of everything they did wrong and how we would have "fixed" it.

Then, I saw it a second time with my Mom over Thanksgiving. I liked it better this time. I already knew what to expect and, I could relax and watch it. However, I did not love the movie.

Things I liked about it were:
James- he is yummy eye candy and sad he is dead. Edward- I like the looks of him but, he seemed a little too brooding for me. Alice, Carlisle, Emmett, Jasper (surprisingly), Charlie, Jessica, Mike, Eric (strangely), Billy Black, Laurent, Victoria (only because she looks like SM).

*Characters that have to go-Rosalie (please recast this girl-she is not Rosalie)

*on the fence about a few characters-Bella (shocking, I know), I think she could be Bella if should would stop fidgeting and start acting. I have seen Kristen Stewart on TV and she acts the same way (meaning she is not acting!) Jacob, I am not sold on him. I just had a completely different picture of Jacob. He being this hunky Native American with broad shoulders and a little bit goofy. I think he did an ok job as his role in Twilight, but the New Moon Jacob is different.

*The director in my opinion needs to be replaced. Some scenes were a train wreck (very important scenes, like the meadow scene). The pacing of the movie was too fast and make-up was applied by Tammy Fay Baker. They have to get a new CG team (PLEASE). The next movie will need more CG than the first, how in the heck are they going to morph into werewolves without looking hokey? The script writer has to go as well-some of the lines seemed forced and awkward.

Am I being too picky? Maybe, but come on people it could have been awesome (with my suggestions of course). I am just glad that they made enough money to make the next one. Hopefully they will take a few of my pointers and it will be a masterpiece!

Check out this great review! She says what I think only better!

I just plain didn't care for it!! It came across as local, northwest home=made movie. I don't think it would be possible to get the book out of my head and into a movie, but they definitely could have done better!!!!! I won't see it again ~ way too painful and awkward. And I doubt I'd see any of the other movies (maybe DVD). But I still like the books!!

I agree with you Brechter. I've seen it twice and thought it was ok. It was a movie made for teenage girls and ask any teenage girl about it and they will shriek and tell you it was amazing. I left the theatre wanting more, but not sure what is was I wanted.

That being said, I'll see the next one, and the next one, and the next one and hope they switch directors as well.

Hey Amy! I hope you don't mind, but I like to peek at yours and Severine's blog every once in awhile (YI adore y'all) just to check up on things. I love your review. Alice was just how I pictured her. Jasper totally caught me off guard, he's a hottie! Even though there were some pretty awkward moments (ahem meadow, much?) Edward was as dreamy as ever. I was so disappointed when they never mentioned being "dazzled" during the whole film! Hello ? I love the dazzle!
Kristen was a huge bomb. Seriously, the girl flares her nostrils every other second.
I enjoyed the movie much more the third time, after I could set aside my high expectations. My husband did not like it at all, too cheesy and not the good kind (his words). I'm hoping they'll have a bigger budget for New Moon.
Take care.

I enjoyed the movie. But I agree with you, the Rosalie actress was a total miscast. I'm sure there are a bunch of unknown mega-gorgeous actress they could find. I know at least 3 friends like that in real life so how hard could it be to find one in Hollywood, d'uh?
Also, the sparkling/meadow scene was a huge letdown. I wish the other vampires and Jacob would have gotten more screen time.
Oh and I can't stand the actress for Bella. She's a pothead and ungrateful.

OK, I enjoyed the movie. That being said, I agree with most of the criticism given here, I just chose to not go into the theatres expecting much. I really didn't like Rosalie, that was the biggest disappointment for me. I thought Edward could have been really good if he was more lovable... I thought he had the passion. I disagree about Jacob, I liked him....we just didn't see much of him. I, also, wonder how they are going to make him into a big strong werewolve. IK will definitely see this one again. Maybe at the dollar theatres.

Hi Amy. It's me Carrie, I found you off of Heather's blog - hope you don't mind the instrusion. I liked your review. I have to agree that Rosalie was not Rosalie. . . really not Roaslie. I also was not a huge fan of Jacob, I didn't think he looked boyish enough for the Twilight Jacob so we'll see what they do next time. I did like Bella, a lot more than I though I would. I was really disappointed when they cast Kristen Stewart, but I thought she pulled it off. Oh Twilight. . . bring mothers, daughters, sisters and friends together around the world.
